Reposted from Facebook: A Christmas Present to Myself

I want to ask my friends to help me give MYSELF a Christmas present! First off, please read the entire post, I know it may be a bit long but, at least to me, it is important.
I hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays and is making good headway into all the preparations it takes to make it special for our loved ones. I also realize that this time of year can be very stressful for many reasons: finances, troubled relationships, family issues etc.; ... I want all of my friends (here on Facebook and those that are not) to know that if they need someone to talk to or discuss any issue that I might be able to offer assistance in, please do not hesitate to call me.

WE HAVE MOVED!!!! Our new location is at 12178 Hwy 49, Ste C, Gulfport, MS 39503, this location is in Raybourn Plaza on north Hwy 49. It has plenty of parking, is handicap accessible and overall is new and improved in every way! I would love for all of my clients, (old, new, current or potential) to come by and check it out. We will still be settling in the first week of October 2012 but everyone is welcome, so please come by and let my office help you with your legal issues or just come in and say "HI!

Pleasant versus Nice

This goes along with a previous post"Listening to Your Lawyer"  (click link to go to that post) and summarizes the way ITRYand handle my practice with clients. I am not always as successful as I would like but the following excerpt from an article by Mike Monterio, called"Getting Clients" published in of April 2012, does seem to help in putting things into perspective for clients and lawyers as well. Read on:
"Be pleasant, don’t be nice
We once received a call from a gentlemen who said, “[redacted] referred me to you.

“Probably the most dangerous thing about an academic education, least in my own case, is that it enables my tendency to over-intellectualize stuff, to get lost in abstract thinking instead of simply paying attention to what’s going on in front of me.”- Depression & Genius: David Foster Wallace
Most all of us have seen the movies about it, WarGames, The Terminator, The Matrix and the list goes on. How does this relate to the quote above? There has been a long standing debate about the relationship of very high intelligence and that of mental and/or emotional problems.

41 things NOT to do in a divorce

Found this link and thought I had to include it here:
It is absolutely worth the read.

Hello All,
I know it has been quite some time but I have been hesitant to put up the same boring legal explanations anyone who knows how to use Google can find, just to fill up space. So this brings me to a delicate but necessary subject; let us proceed:
Let's say you go to the doctor because you are sick. He examines you and gives you a diagnosis and and treatment program. You may not like it, it may hurt, and it probably will be expensive but you have two choices: Either do what he says and get better hopefully or find another doctor for a second opinion.

DUI and practice areas

I tried to respond to your email address but I do not think it got to you. To answer the question of "Do I practice in the area of DUI?", the answer is absolutely yes. Geography obviously plays a part in what cases I can and cannot take. I handle the MS Gulf Coast for the most part (Hancock, Harrison, Stone, Jackson) counties. If you are out of state and would like to set up a phone consult, or in town and would like to make an appointment, please call my office at 228-896-3374 and we will do whatever we can to help you out.

To start I suppose that I should let anyone reading know that this is my first time posting a blog and to keep that in mind as you go forward.
My office, Varnado Law Firm, has been around since the early 1990's when my father T.D. started it. It was first located on north Highway 49 in Orange Grove but quickly made its way to the Pass road location (about a mile from Biloxi/Gulfport line) that SO many people knew of and to this day probably still look for us there. After Katrina, like a lot of MS Coast residents things changed for us.
